12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country

This list took my attention.  This is taken from a book which is written by Alex Lacson

  1. Follow traffic rules. Follow the law.

  2. Whenever you buy or pay for anything, always ask for an official receipt.

  3. Don’t buy smuggled goods. Buy local. Buy Filipino. (Or, if you read the book, he suggests: 50-50).

  4. When you talk to others, especially foreigners speak positively about us and our country.

  5. Respect your traffic officer, policeman and soldier.

  6. Do not litter. Dispose your garbage properly. Segregate. Recycle. Conserve.

  7. Support your church.

  8. During elections, do your solemn duty.

  9. Pay your employees well.

  10. Pay your taxes.

  11. Adopt a scholar or a poor child.

  12. Be a good parent. Teach your kids to follow the law and love our country.

Lost in Cainta

Date: April 1, 2010 09:00PM  (Maundy Thursday)

Event: Annual Panata (means similar to pledge) of people walking to Antipolo Church

Route: Antipolo City to Pasig City

GPS Used:

  • Garmin GPS (OSM Philippines Map)
  • Google Maps for iPhone

Naligaw sa Cainta

Situation Encountered:

  1. At Tikling Road, we were stuck in this human traffic, BIG TIME! :(
  2. Ortigas Ext. to Cainta – heavy traffic
  3. Tried Manila East Road to East Bank Road (Floodway)
  4. Wrong turn at Rizal Ave.  suppose to turn at Highway 2000, stupid GPS
  5. Lost at the subdivisions of Cainta, relying on GPS, hoping to reached Floodway
  6. Reached Floodway by asking questions to the local residence on each corner.

Lessons Learned:

  1. Do not pass to Tikling Road (Ortigas Ext to Antipolo) on a Maundy Thursday
  2. Do not try something new without looking at the map first
  3. Free GPS map is not reliable on remote subdivisions
  4. Ask and believe to the residences of the place, they know better than STUPID GPS
  5. If lost look for Public Jeepnies, they will bring you to the main road.

Couch to 5K

My friends invited me for running 2 weeks ago for a jog at UP.  At first I don’t think that I survive running.  Since for the past 10 years, my lifestyle was full of vices, sex, drugs, and Rock & Roll, nah ;) only cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking, late night/early morning sleeping, and over sleeping.  Luckily I survived 6.6KM @ UP, walking.

Jameson Ong Finished 6.6KM @ UP walking/jogging. It took me 1:20 (3 ikot)

March 18 at 1:04am

After that run, I look for some application for my Ipod Touch regarding running and I bumped into this one, C25K. (Couch to 5K Program)  At first, I don’t see any value on this application since it will only say run or walk at a given time, but if you look at the program week by week this will help you a lot.  Since this program will help you prepare running straight in 30 minutes.

Currently I am already on end of the second week and I am preparing my self to 5K Fun run.  I remember old people always said: I can do that when I was younger. Age is only a number, we can stay young and fit forever.

SURVEY.

Ayon sa Merriam Webster ang survey ay "to query (someone) in order to collect data for the analysis of some aspect of a group or area"

Removing Empty Directory

Did you know that having empty folders on you system can cause slowdown on you system?  Yes it is true specially if you have program that traverse all the files and folders on your systems.  You know, by looking to the files at our hard disk, it is a jungle out there.

Here is a simple approach to this problem:
dir <Target Dirctory> /b /ad /s | Sort /r > <output file>

EX: dir c:\Windows /b /as /s | sort /r >DirList.TXT

and append RD for each line on of the output file

The concept here is get the directory list and sort it reverse order. Why in reverse order since the directory display the top directory then it goes to it contents.  By reversing the order you will remove the inner folder first, then the outer folder.

Since RD (Remove Directory) removes empty folder only, therefore it will just remove empty folders only.

Here is a PERL function I made:
sub EraseDir()
{

if (!-d $_[0])
{
return 0; #Function Failed
}
else
{
#Get the directory list and sort it reverse order.
system ("dir $_[0] /b /ad /s | Sort /r > _junk.file");
open LIST ,"_junk.file" || return 0; #Function Failed
open FH,">_junk.Bat";
foreach my $line (<LIST>)
{
chop $line;
print FH "RD \"$line\"\n";
}

close (FH);
close (LIST);
unlink "_junk.file";
system ("_junk.BAT");
unlink "_junk.Bat";
return 1; #Successful
}
}

Carnapping Modus Operandi – Egg Throwers

We got this from a text message of a friend.  True or not, it wouldn’t hurt to take precaution.

If you are driving at night and someone threw eggs on your windshield. DO NOT USE THE WIPER AND SPRAY WITH WATER. Because egg mixed with wiper became milky and block your vision up 92.5%.  Then you are forced to stop at the road side.  And someone will approach you and rob your things, or even take your car at the worst.  This is a new technique used by robbers.

A sample egg splat, imagine this on your windshield

Please inform your family and friends about this.
